The documents do not tell the name of her husband, only that the user of the land who belonged to Brandstub was named Jacob Glaso. A tradition in the Glassau family says that the founder of the family was an immigrated German gardener who married the daughter of the owner of Brandstub, and therefore Birgitte Pedersdatter is supposed to be the ancestress of the family. Maybe the name Glassau or Glaso indicate that Jacob Glaso came from the area around the manor of Glasau in Schleswig-Holstein. <br/> | The documents do not tell the name of her husband, only that the user of the land who belonged to Brandstub was named Jacob Glaso. Brandstub, Gramrode, Rårup sogn, Bjerre herred, Vejle amt

The farm named Brandstub is situated between the villages of Gramrode and Kleis in the parish of Raarup. Its number in the land register is no 2a from Gramrode.
It is mentioned in 1578 under the name of “Brendstub” but a couple of centuries before that we find ”Brendtorp udi Raffnholt” in the oldest Danish Register of Archives.
In the last half of the sixteenth century Michel, whose surname we do not know, owned Brandstub. After his death, his children inherited Brandstub, and the farm was divided, so that his daughters each inherited a part and his son Rasmus Michelsen the rest. During some bargains in the family, Rasmus Michelsen's widow Ingierd Andersdatter and her children assembled the plots of the farm again in 1597. From documents dated 1627 and 1636 we know that Peder Rasmussen (son of Rasmus Michelsen) had taken over the farm from his mother.
In the oldest land register from 1660 we find Brandstub under the name of ”Brandstob”, and Maren Peder Rasmussen’s [that is Maren who had been married to Peder Rasmussen] was a freeholder. The “hartkorn” was only 1 skp, 1½ fdk., 1 alb [2], and the farm was called a small-holding, probably because the land was split up again between the children of Peder Rasmussen.
In the next land register from 1688 the owner was Birgitte Pedersdatter. She was the daughter of Peder Rasmussen, and she and her husband assembled the land again, so that the hartkorn was now 5 td., 0 skp., 2 fdk., 1 alb.
However, it is a fact that the owner of Brandstub in the first half of the eighteenth century was Friedrich Jacobsen Glaso. He probably died in 1740. That is the year of the administration of his estate, and he was survived by his wife Sophie Jensdatter (1690-1771).
Friedrich Jacobsen Glaso was followed by his son Jens Friderichsen Glaso. The purchase document is signed on the manor of Boller on July 2, 1740.
Jens Friderichsen Glaso (born about 1715) died in March 1770. His widow Maren Pedersdatter (born about 1740) was much younger than himself, and three months later she married her cousin Hans Jacobsen. Their son Jens Hansen became the next owner of Brandstub who now slipped the Glaso family … or did it?
Jens Hansen married a great-grand child of Friedrich Jacobsen Glaso and Sophie Jensdatter whose name was Elisabeth Margrete Friderichsdatter Glaso. She was actually engaged to another man, but her father did not want that engagement, and finally she agreed to fulfil her father’s will and married Jens Hansen under the condition that he would build a new farmhouse on Brandstub. The family history says that she cried the whole time on her wedding day.
Jens Hansen and Elisabeth Margrethe were followed by their son, Frederik Jensen Glassau, and he was followed by his son, Elisius Martin Glassau. His son Frederik Jensen Glassau was the last Glassau on Brandstub. When he died in 1898 the farm was sold to an outsider, and at that time it had been a family farm for more than 250 years.
Søren Knudsen from Glud (1878-1955) was founder of the Glud Museum and a skilfull artist, too. His drawings from Brandstub can be seen on horsensbilleder.dk.
